Hard Core Crop Gift Bag

I am having fun with the Core’dinations Crop this weekend.  Yesterday I did some cards for the challenge posted by Vivian Keh on her blog, Contadina K.  Today I really stretched my imagination with a challenge by Ava Gavloski on her blog, Cottage Life.  We are to add a Core’dinations embellishment to an existing gift bag.  Well, I wanted to think outside the gift bag, so to speak, and do something different, so instead of using a paper gift bag, I used a nylon one.

I have to say I was very surprised how well the card stock held up to my punishment.  I started by crinkling and mashing the card stock so that it would have distress lines running through it.  I sanded the creases and inked them.  Once I was satisfied I had dished out enough distress, I then cut the flowers using my Sizzix Big Shots and the Tattered Flower Garland die.

The flourishes are from Spellbinders Elegant Posts die cut.  I cut off the post part.  I expected the card stock would tear on the delicate flourishes, but to my surprise, it didn’t!  I stressed the card stock so much that it started to feel more like fabric, than paper.

I shaped my the flowers by rolling them on a stick.  I then glued the flowers together, topped them with some silver RubnBuff, and threaded them onto an head pin that had been topped with a white/clear bead.

Since I chose to put these on a bag that does not have a rigid surface, I used the head pin to secure the flowers to the surface of the bag.

Here you can see inside the bag, I made a simple loop with my round nosed pliers, so that the pin would not catch on anything that I put in the bag.

This made it so the flowers would move with the fabric and stay on the bag while opening and closing.

This was really simple and quick to make.  I might just have to get my sewing machine out and make some fabric gift bags this year!  Have a happy/creative week all!
